AP- US general says Islamic State gaining in Afghanistan
The Islamic State is making small inroads in Afghanistan and could grow into a more worrisome threat, a U.S. Army general said Thursday. Speaking to reporters at the Pentagon from his offices in Kabul, Brig. Gen. Wilson Shoffner said the Islamic State, which rose to prominence by capturing large swaths of Syria and Iraq, is not yet capable of coordinating military operations in more than one part of Afghanistan at a time.


Senior UN official in Iraq deplores ‘cowardly’ terrorist attack that kills dozens at Baghdad market
The acting head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq has strongly condemned today’s truck bomb attack on a market in east Baghdad, which initial reports say killed at least 45 people and for which the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has claimed responsibility.







KP- Suicide attack in Logar leaves over 20 people wounded
At least twenty two people were wounded following a suicide attack in central Logar province of Afghanistan earlier this afternoon. According to local government officials, the incident took place in Mohammad Agha district after a suicide bomber targeted the Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces.

Condemning the continued use of indiscriminate weapons in civilian areas of Syria, the United Nations special envoy for the country has today renewed his call on the warring parties to immediately cease such attacks and focus on finding a political solution to the “unacceptable situation” in their homeland.

Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri pledged the group's allegiance to the new head of the Afghan Taliban, showing the organization's stance on the Taliban leader’s disputed accession. Zawahiri made the pledge to Mullah Mohammad Akhtar Mansur in an audio statement posted online.
