ENG - The United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) is a political party in the United Kingdom which adheres to a centre-right ideology that has been identified as being eurosceptic, populist and conservative. Its primary policy is the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union. UKIP's leadership position is currently held by former leader Jeffrey Titford since the party's former leader, Lord Pearson of Rannoch, who was elected as leader on 27 November 2009, stood down as leader on 17 August 2010. Lord Monckton, a former advisor to Margaret Thatcher, became joint Deputy Leader on 3 June 2010 and shares the role with David Campbell Bannerman, who remains the head of policy of the party. UKIP currently holds twelve seats in the European Parliament and two in the House of Lords (the latter ...

Gerard shows rules are just hot air

UKIP's Gerard Batten again drew attention to the double standards in the European Parliament while sitting in Strasbourg last week. Under the rules of procedure banners and signs are not allowed to be displayed in the Chamber. But it depends who is displaying them. On October 20, the Parliament voted on the Estrella Report on Women's Rights and Gender Equality. MEPs from the left carried in pink and blue helium balloons and tied them to their desks.Mr Batten raised a point or order and asked the President to rule if this was in order or not. He was ignored and the ballons were ...

UKIP - Britain Mugged by EU Budget Hike

British taxpayers have been mugged by the European Parliament after it voted for a huge increase in its budget for 2011 while preaching austerity to national governments. UKIP MEP Marta Andreasen said that the political and financial crisis which had brought much of France to a standstill because of strike action over austerity measures and which had forced the British Government to scrap half the Royal Navy seemed to have passed the European Parliament by unnoticed. The budgets for the European Parliament's subsidised canteens, staff social activities and MEP entertainment budget have ...

Families are key to the nation's wellbeing
The importance of families should be obvious, but apparently it isn't to the old three establishment parties. Families are vital to the wellbeing of this country. In the light of the recent proposed legislation UKIP are making it clear that it is not good enough.A member of the policy working group on Children and Families, Michael Curtis said: “The proposed new legislation does nothing to improve a system which is out of control and which has significantly contributed to the unnecessary splitting up of thousands of families throughout the UK. "If anything, the proposals will devolve more responsibility to the Local Authorities and enable them and their officers to make more decisions outside of a Court framework and so remove the legal right to challenge them. Such actions may well reduce the pressure on the courts and save the Government money, but in a situation where there is evidence of bad decision making within the Local Authorities and by its officers, this can hardly
UKIP statement on the death of Margaret Thatcher
Following the announcement of the death of Margaret Thatcher from a stroke, at the age of 87, UKIP Leader Nigel Farage issued the following statement:"I have always said that Mrs Thatcher was a great inspiration to me personally. Whether you loved her or hated her nobody could deny that she was a great patriot, who believed passionately in this country and her people."A towering figure in recent British and political history has passed from the stage. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family."Mr Farage, who is visiting Grantham this afternoon (9 April) to sign the book of remembrance, said that the party would leave to its branches the decision on whether to suspend campaigning for the local elections."One of my abiding memories of Mrs Thatcher is that on the morning after the Brighton bombing, she was on the Party Conference platform at 9.00 o'clock, ready to carry on. "In recent years she made clear that she believed that we should leave the European Union, so I think it is appro
