Early life Franks was born in Uravan, Colorado, a company town. He was born with a cleft lip and palate, and has said that doctors after his birth initially gave his parents little hope for his long-term survival. Franks underwent nine operations altogether, the first when he was two-and-a-half weeks old. After his parents separated, Franks took care of his younger siblings. While his parents took financial responsibility, he overtook the leadership ...

Trent Franks links balanced budget to abortion and Nazis

Truth is, former oil man and now Republican Congressman Trent Franks, who's definitely in the running for the looniest congressman from the looniest state, can link any topic to abortion. In the mid-80s Franks founded the Arizona Family Research Institute, the local version of Dobson's Focus on the Family. He was elected to the state legislature in 1984 running primarily on one issue: abortion. When Franks was elected to the US House in 2002, he arrived in DC with one goal: overturn Roe v Wade, and his entire tenure has been devoted to doing just that. This spring during the Planned ...

Arizona Congressman Trent Franks today endorsed Wes Gullett for Mayor of Phoenix, citing Gullett’s dedication to limited government and his Seven Point Jobs Plan. “Wes Gullett understands that government doesn’t create jobs, businesses do! Wes’ seven point plan to cut taxes and keep the city’s budget in line will help businesses grow jobs and keep hard earned money in taxpayer’s wallets where it belongs. Congressman Smith and Congressman Franks Introduce Bipartisan Legislation to Secure Citizenship for Adopted Children
Washington D.C. – On June 10, 2016, Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA)and Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ) introduced bipartisan legislation, The Adoptee Citizenship Act, H.R. 5454, to guarantee citizenship to international adoptees. Similar legislation has been introduced in the Senate, S.2275 by Senator Klobuchar (D-MN) and Senator Coats (R-IN). Often, when children are adopted, the required paperwork is not filed and the children are never naturalized. With the passage of the Child Citizenship Act of 2000, most international adoptees were granted citizenship. Unfortunately, the bill did not apply to adoptees who were already over the age of 18 when it was enacted into law in 2000. The Adoptee Citizenship Act, would fix this arbitrary oversight and grant citizenship to people who were legally adopted and were age 18 or older in the year 2000 when the Child Citizenship Act was signed into law.   “This bill seeks to carry forward the vision of the original Child Citizenship Act of 200
Franks, McCollum Lead Bipartisan Letter Urging Speaker Ryan to Prioritize Religious Freedom in Meeting with PM Modi of India
Washington, D.C. – On June 7, a bipartisan group of 18 House members – led by Representatives Trent Franks (R-AZ) and Betty McCollum (D-MN) – wrote to Speaker Paul Ryan urging him to prioritize religious freedom in India during his meeting tomorrow with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially in light of ongoing violence and harassment against religious minorities, including Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, and Sikhs. “We respectfully request that during your meetings with the Prime Minister, the ‘shared value’ of the fundamental right of religious freedom will be a priority in your conversation. Religious minority communities – including Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, and Sikhs – have endured ongoing violence and harassment for decades in India, and continue to live in a climate where known perpetrators commit violence with impunity,” the Members of Congress wrote. “It is in the best interest of the United States and India to reaffirm religious freedom as
Congressman Trent Franks Appointed as FY2017 NDAA Conferee
Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-08) released the following statement after being appointed by Speaker Ryan to serve on the bipartisan conference committee charged with producing a final National Defense Authorization Act to fund the military and secure the homeland: "I am grateful for the appointment to be a House Republican conferee to work with my colleagues from both chambers to finalize the National Defense Authorization Act. Our military deserves to be equipped with the necessary tools and resources to protect this great nation and keep Americans safe home and abroad. The House legislation gives the men and women in uniform an increase in pay and caps co-pays for our troops and veterans. These benefits are well-deserved for the sacrifices they make day in and day out for all of us.  America remains the land of the free because of these, the brave.  I will fight to ensure our military's readiness issues are adequately resolved - when our troops must pull p
It Was Entirely Within His Power To Stop This Horrific Evil: Barack Obama Chose Not To Do So
Local eyewitnesses (along with Fox News, ARA News, and other outlets) are reporting that on Thursday last week in Mosul, Iraq, the Islamic State placed 19 Yezidi girls in iron cages and, before a crowd of hundreds, burned them alive for refusing to be their sex slaves.  This is the state in which President Obama will leave the Middle East.  It did not have to come to this, and would not have come to this if not for the serially heartless and incompetent decisions this President has made during his tenure as America’s Commander-in-Chief.  Tragically, this will be his true legacy. Back in 2009, President Obama, in keeping with his campaign promise to pull all U.S. combat troops out of Iraq within “16 months” of his election, began maneuvering to withdraw U.S. forces.  Unlike past wars, which saw the likes of Gen. MacArthur’s staff rewriting Japan’s post-war constitution for them before he accepted it, the White House took “NO” for an answer from a characteristically in
