Trent Franks links balanced budget to abortion and Nazis

Truth is, former oil man and now Republican Congressman Trent Franks, who's definitely in the running for the looniest congressman from the looniest state, can link any topic to abortion. In the mid-80s Franks founded the Arizona Family Research Institute, the local version of Dobson's Focus on the Family. He was elected to the state legislature in 1984 running primarily on one issue: abortion. When Franks was elected to the US House in 2002, he arrived in DC with one goal: overturn Roe v Wade, and his entire tenure has been devoted to doing just that. This spring during the Planned ...

Congressman Trent Franks Appointed as FY2017 NDAA Conferee
Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-08) released the following statement after being appointed by Speaker Ryan to serve on the bipartisan conference committee charged with producing a final National Defense Authorization Act to fund the military and secure the homeland: "I am grateful for the appointment to be a House Republican conferee to work with my colleagues from both chambers to finalize the National Defense Authorization Act. Our military deserves to be equipped with the necessary tools and resources to protect this great nation and keep Americans safe home and abroad. The House legislation gives the men and women in uniform an increase in pay and caps co-pays for our troops and veterans. These benefits are well-deserved for the sacrifices they make day in and day out for all of us.  America remains the land of the free because of these, the brave.  I will fight to ensure our military's readiness issues are adequately resolved - when our troops must pull p
Congressman Smith and Congressman Franks Introduce Bipartisan Legislation to Secure Citizenship for Adopted Children
Washington D.C. – On June 10, 2016, Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA)and Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ) introduced bipartisan legislation, The Adoptee Citizenship Act, H.R. 5454, to guarantee citizenship to international adoptees. Similar legislation has been introduced in the Senate, S.2275 by Senator Klobuchar (D-MN) and Senator Coats (R-IN). Often, when children are adopted, the required paperwork is not filed and the children are never naturalized. With the passage of the Child Citizenship Act of 2000, most international adoptees were granted citizenship. Unfortunately, the bill did not apply to adoptees who were already over the age of 18 when it was enacted into law in 2000. The Adoptee Citizenship Act, would fix this arbitrary oversight and grant citizenship to people who were legally adopted and were age 18 or older in the year 2000 when the Child Citizenship Act was signed into law.   “This bill seeks to carry forward the vision of the original Child Citizenship Act of 200
Phyllis Schlafly Remembered for Commitment to the Protection and Cultivation of Life
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Franks released the following tribute to commemorate the life of Phyllis Schlafly upon her passing at age 92: "My dear friend Phyllis Schlafly has gone on to receive her Heavenly reward. I think it is important for all of us to acknowledge that the conservative landscape we now see never would have come about apart from the life, love, brilliance and courage of Phyllis Schlafly. "This grand lady maintained her place on the firing line of truth and freedom since the days when conservatives had to search each other out in a crowded room, and now due in great part to her efforts, conservatives dominate the political discourse in our country. "The legacy she leaves behind with six children, 16 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren is a testament to her love of life and her commitment to its protection and cultivation. Our Earthly loss is Heaven's gain as another champion of life, truth, and liberty passes on into Glory."
Arizona Congressional Delegation Urges Extension Of Veteran Choice Program
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Trent Franks (R-AZ), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Martha McSally (R-AZ), David Schweikert (R-AZ) and Matt Salmon (R-AZ) joined together in expressing their support for the Care Veterans Deserve Act, companion legislation to a bill championed by Senator John McCain (R-AZ) in the Senate. The bill ensures that the Veteran Choice Program continues next year and expands access to care at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) while enhancing choice and flexibility in veterans’ health care. “We are proud to support this important legislation to help ensure our veterans have access to the care they have earned,” the lawmakers said in a joint statement. “Too many of our war heroes have suffered because of VA mismanagement and corruption. We must work to improve the Veterans Choice Program and the way in which it is funded; failure to expand this crucial program would be a step backwards in the progress we’ve made towards access to timely health care
