Trent Franks links balanced budget to abortion and Nazis

Truth is, former oil man and now Republican Congressman Trent Franks, who's definitely in the running for the looniest congressman from the looniest state, can link any topic to abortion. In the mid-80s Franks founded the Arizona Family Research Institute, the local version of Dobson's Focus on the Family. He was elected to the state legislature in 1984 running primarily on one issue: abortion. When Franks was elected to the US House in 2002, he arrived in DC with one goal: overturn Roe v Wade, and his entire tenure has been devoted to doing just that. This spring during the Planned ...

Tragedy in Barcelona
Washington, D.C. – In reaction to the news that a van plowed into a crowd in Barcelona, Congressman Trent Franks issued the following statement: “Yet again, another horrible tragedy darkens our hearts today. I pray that God would comfort the hearts of those affected. “I deeply affirm Vice President Pence's remarks – the U.S. should stand ready to assist Barcelona to find these murderers and bring them to justice. As we learn the motivation of the attacks, we must also do all that we can to strategically combat any dangerous ideologies that continue to threaten innocent persons.”   ###
Rep. Trent Franks Reacts to Trump's Pardoning of Joe Arpaio
Washington, D.C. -- In reaction to the news that President Trump pardoned Joe Arpaio, Rep. Trent Franks released the following statement:   "According to the Washington Post, a pardon for Joe Arpaio is 'not unprecedented.' Presidents have long employed their sweeping Constitutional right to pardon convicted persons.   "Let us not forget one of Barack Obama's final acts as president. In his last days, Obama commuted the prison sentence of Chelsea Manning -- a treasonous intelligence analyst who shared a trove of intelligence with the infamous Wikileaks. When convicted, Chelsea was known as Bradley. After conviction, Bradley came out as transgender and protested being assigned an all-male military prison. To appease left-wing social activists, the former president used his power to pardon a person who put American national security at grave risk.    "While no one can dispute Manning acted to undermine our country's national security, Joe Arpaio has spent a lifetime trying
A Legacy Of Law and Order Deserves Better
Washington, D.C. – According to recent reports, President Donald Trump may soon issue a pardon for Joe Arpaio, the former sheriff found guilty for defying a state judge’s order to stop traffic patrols targeting suspected undocumented immigrants. Arpaio continued the law enforcement patrols for 17 months after the 2011 order was issued. The former sheriff explains he did not intend to break the law – he misunderstood the full measure of restrictions contained in the order. In reaction to the possible presidential pardon, Congressman Trent Franks issued the following statement:   “Sheriff Arpaio has been a long-respected member of the law enforcement community who has dedicated his life to keeping Arizona communities safe. He has no prior convictions, no criminal record, no record of wrongs. In his twilight years, he deserves to retire peacefully and enjoy the satisfaction of a hard-earned and honorable retirement. “Let us have an honest moment – this has been a political
Martin Luther King's Example Has Lessons for Our Present Political Community
Washington, D.C. -- In commemoration of the 54th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream..." speech, Rep. Trent Franks released the following statement:   "On this day in 1963, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. appealed to America’s founding documents – the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence – to make a brilliant, conservative case for African American civil rights in his now-famous ‘I Have A Dream...’ speech.   "On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, King explained that our country’s founders had issued African Americans a ‘check’ in the form of the ‘magnificent words’ of the founding documents. On August 28, 1963, he and the other marchers gathered on the Washington mall were there to cash that ‘check’ and gain true freedom under the law.   "There are no shortage of injustices present in our nation today. Like King, we must use peaceful, lawful means to bring light to these injustices. We must appeal to our history, our founding
