Ex-President Bill Clinton will attend next Saturday's Mahoning County Democratic Party pre-Election Day breakfast urging voters to support Gov. Ted Strickland's re-election bid. The event will be at Mr. Anthony's on South Avenue in Boardman, said Mahoning Democratic Chairman David Betras. "On a scale of one to 10, this is about a 15," Betras said when asked how important Clinton's visit is to the Valley and Strickland's re-election effort. The breakfast will be open to the public, but tickets will be needed, he said. Details of how to obtain tickets aren't finalized. Mr. Anthony's ...

Re-elect Gov. Strickland

THE hard-won experience Ted Strickland has gained in four years in the Ohio governor's office provides a better basis to lead this state for the next four years - and to establish a sound foundation for its future - than the untested platform of his chief challenger. The Blade recommends the re-election of Democrat TED STRICKLAND. The recession has battered Ohio more than most other states in the past two years. Our unemployment rate remains stubbornly in the double digits. Because of economic contraction, the next governor will confront a projected shortfall of as much as $8 ...

Strickland connected with county

Voters in Washington County really do have a long memory. Just look at the totals from Tuesday's governor's race. While winner John Kasich carried most of the 88 counties in Ohio, incumbent Gov. Voters have appreciated the work Strickland has done on behalf of the region for nearly two decades. Strickland has enjoyed support from Washington County in past ...

Ohio rainy-day savings account hits $1.5 billion
Turns out, Ohio’s checking and savings accounts work a lot like yours. Gov. John Kasich and state budget chief Tim Keen authorized a transfer today of about $1 billion in surplus tax revenue to Ohio’s Budget Stabilization Fund, also known as the ”rainy-day fund.” A staffer’s computer screen was projected in front of reporters and employees in the Office […]
Gilligan celebrated for doing right, despite consequences
COLUMBUS — John Gilligan, Ohio’s 62nd governor, did what he thought was right, no matter the political consequences. That approach may have cost Democrat Jack Gilligan a second term as governor or congressman or a hoped-for seat in the U.S. Senate. But he would do it all again, the same way, his children and admirers said Thursday at […]
