The opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) is pursuing an alliance with the ruling Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) and its coalition partner People's New Party (PNP), according to a draft of its plan to rehabilitate itself.
The SDP approved the first draft of its rehabilitation plan at a meeting of its executive office on Sept. 30, and will closely review it before working out the final version.
The draft describes the party's downward trend since 2000 as "a crisis that could force the party to disband itself," and underscores the need to look for ways to survive.
