John Dwyer, who was re-elected to New Ross Urban District Council in Wexford on a Sinn Fein ticket, accused the republican leadership of building a party of faces rather than policies. His resignation marks a triple-whammy for Gerry Adams, just a week after veteran Dublin councillor Christy Burke stood down from the ranks and a poor European election performance. Mr Dwyer, a long-time trade union activist, said he left the party because it was no ...

F.Fail, Sinn Fein and Labour expected to control Council

Donegal’s 29 newly-elected councillors will meet later today. Donegal County Council will meet in Lifford at 12noon for their AGM, with the role of the Mayor of Donegal due to be filled. Five new councillors will enter the chamber today, in the form of Independent Seamus O’Domhnaill, Labour’s Frank McBrearty Junior and Martin Farren, Fine Gael’s Martin Hanley and Sinn Fein’s Mick Quinn. It is widely expected that Fianna Fail, Sinn Fein and Labour will form an alliance to take control of the Council. 19/Jun 08:20 source: oceanfm.ie 2009-06-22
