Tories pass omnibus crime bill


The centrepiece of the Conservatives' law-and-order agenda cleared its final hurdle Monday. MPs voted 154-129 to pass Bill C-10, the omnibus crime bill that rolls nine pieces of legislation into one. Mandatory sentences staying in crime bill, Nicholson says


Federal Justice Minister Rob Nicholson is standing by mandatory minimum sentencing legislation, despite a new warning that such laws don't work. Nicholson said the law, which includes mandatory minimum sentences for drug offences, is "very targeted."
