राजनाथ सिंह (जन्म १० जुलाई, १९५१ वाराणसी, उत्तर प्रदेश, भारत ) भारत के एक प्रमुख राजनीतिज्ञ और भारत के सबसे बड़े विपक्षी दल भारतीय जनता पार्टी के वर्तमान अध्यक्ष हैं। वह पहले भाजपा के युवा स्कंध के और भाजपा की उत्तर प्रदेश (जो उनका गृह राज्य भी है), ईकाई के अध्यक्ष थे। प्रारंभ में वे भौतिकी के व्याख्याता थे, पर शीघ्र जनता पार्टी से जुड़ने के लिए उन्होनें राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ से अपने दीर्घ संबंधों का उपयोग किया, जिसके कारण वे उत्तर प्रदेश में कई पदों पर विराजमान हुए।

 

राजनाथ सिंह का जन्म भारत के उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य के वाराणसी जिले के एक छोटे से ग्राम भाभोरा में हुआ था। उनके पिता का नाम राम बदन सिंह और माता का नाम गुजराती देवी था। वे क्षेत्र के एक साधारण कृषक परिवार में जन्में थे और आगे चलकर उन्होनें गोरखपुर विश्वविद्यालय से प्रथम क्ष्रेणी में भौतिक शास्त्र में आचार्य की उपाधी प्राप्त की। वे १३ वर्ष की आयु से (सन् १९६४ से) संघ परिवार से जुड़े हुए हैं, और मिर्ज़ापुर में भौतिकी व्याख्यता की नौकरी लगनें के बाद भी संघ से जुड़े रहे। १९७४ में, माथे पर एक चमकदार लाल तिलक के साथ, उन्हें भारतीय जनसंघ का सचिव नियुक्त किया गया।

 

राजनाथ सिंह ने अपने राजनैतिक जीवन की शुरुआत उत्तर प्रदेश से की, वो २००० से २००२ तक उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमन्त्री तथा राष्ट्रीय जनतान्त्रिक गठबन्धन के शासन में कृषि मंत्री रहे।

Rajnath Singh (born 10 July 1951) is an Indian right wing politician who is the current president of Bharatiya Janata Party. He began his career as a physics lecturer and used his long-term connections with the nationalist organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to become involved with the Janata Party. The involvement fruitioned into appointments in government offices in his home state of Uttar Pradesh. Significant political accomplishments include Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, as a Cabinet Minister in the National Democratic Alliance regime and as twice elected National President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was previously president of the BJP youth wing and the BJP's unit in his home state.

 

Early life

Rajnath Singh was born in the small village of Bhabhaura in the Chandauli district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in a Rajput family. His father was Ram Badan Singh and his mother was Gujarati Devi. He was born into a family of farmers and went on to secure a masters degree in physics, acquiring first division results from the Gorakhpur University. Rajnath Singh had been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since 1964, at the age of 13 and remained connected with the organization even during his employment as a physics lecturer in Mirzapur. In 1974, he was appointed secretary for the Mirzapur unit of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh, a Hindutva based political party.

 

Political Career

In 1975, aged 24, Rajnath Singh was appointed District President of the Jana Sangh. In 1977, he was elected Member of Legislative Assembly from the Mirzapur constituency. In 1984, he became state president of the youth wing, in 1986 he was appointed national general secretary of the youth wing. In 1988, he finally rose to the position of National President in the BJP youth and was also elected into the Uttar Pradesh legislative council.

 

In 1991, he became Education Minister in the first BJP government in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Major highlights of his tenure as Education Minister included rewriting history texts and incorporating vedic mathematics into the syllabus. In April 1994, he was elected into the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of the Indian Parliament) and he became involved with the Advisory committee on Industry (1994–96), Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Agriculture, Business Advisory Committee, House Committee and the Committee on Human Resource Development.

 

On 25 March 1997, he became the President of the BJP's unit in Uttar Pradesh and in 1999 he became the Union Cabinet Minister for Surface Transport. In the NDA Government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Rajnath Singh took the job of Minister of Agriculture and was faced with the difficult task of maintaining one of the most volatile areas of India's economy.

 

He was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 28 October 2000 – 8 March 2002. On 24 December 2005, following the resignation of Lal Krishna Advani, he was unanimously elected as the BJP's National President. He was re-elected in November 2006 with no challenges to his candidacy, and 15 nominations from the committee. However he was succeeded by Nitin Gadkari in 2009.

 

On 24 January 2013, following the resignation of Nitin Gadkari due to corruption charges, Rajnat Singh was re-elected as the BJP's Nation. l President.  Top BJP party leaders accused Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a supporter of Singh, for having orchestrated the take down of Nitin Gadkari.
