Lani to boycott PNoy’s SONA!
actress-turned- Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla yesterday said she will boycott the fifth State-of- the-Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III on July 28. Mercado-Revilla said she expects Aquino to focus on the filing of cases against high-profile politicians and their coaccused in connection with the multibillion-peso pork barrel scam. She stressed that she and her family’s main concerns right now are to seek fair justice and clear the name of her husband Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla and not the senator’s bid to run in the 2016 presidential polls. Mercado-Revilla said she respects the opinion of Akbayan party-list Rep. Walden Bello who stressed that Revilla was “delusional” in discussing about running for the presidency while in detention. Bong at makasama namin siyang muli on a normal basis.
POE COULD BLIND SIDE BINAY IN 2016
AN ally of Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay admitted yesterday that Sen. Grace Poe would give Binay a run for his money in the 2016 presidential election. Valenzuela City Rep. Sherwin Gatchalian, a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) who allied himself with Binay, said the good showing of Poe in surveys is an indication that she can be a serious rival of Binay who is believed to be a runaway winner in the presidential race if elections were held today. In the March 19 to 26 nationwide survey conducted by Pulse Asia Research Inc. the 1,200 respondents chose Binay to be the next president while Poe was the second choice. “Considering that she is new in politics, she is a strong contender already. I heard many people want her to run. Meanwhile, Gatchalian said that there is also a possibility that Poe might be the runningmate of Binay, disclosing there are some people from the UNA work
Happy Birthday GMA, ‘Hope You Spend the Rest of Your Life Behind Bars
It has been a dizzying drop from the euphoric highs of 2001 when Filipinos forced President Joseph Estrada from office and installed Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in his place. Estrada was widely seen as a corrupt, philandering politician; a high school dropout who was unqualified to be president. Arroyo on the other hand had the pedigree, education, and morals—we all assumed—to handle the job ...
Why All the Fuss? We Knew They were Corrupt Anyway!
So finally the cat is out of the bag, so to speak. But we Pinoys should not be surprised at all. We all know how corrupt our country is. Even before former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was accused of electoral sabotage and the misuse of public funds in 2011; even before Joseph “Erap” Estrada—an earlier president was convicted of plunder by the Sandiganbayan in 2007; even before Ferdinand Marcos, a president-turned-dictator, was booted out of the country along with his family and cronies twenty-eight years ago; we Pinoys knew they were corrupt. We also knew our Senators, congressmen, governors, mayors, Barangay chairmen, BIR and Customs officials, and our next-door neighbors were never totally on the up-and-up ...
