Partido Liberal Constitucionalista

ESP - El Partido Liberal Constitucionalista, (PLC), es el partido que gobernó hasta el 2007 en Nicaragua. Fue fundado en 1968 con el nombre de Movimiento Liberal Constitucionalista (MLC) por Ramiro Sacasa Guerrero (Ministro del Trabajo en el gobierno del dictador General Anastasio Somoza García), quien se separó del oficialista Partido Liberal Nacionalista (PLN) para oponerse al somocismo. En los años 1980 se le cambió el nombre de Movimiento por el de Partido y en 1989 fue uno de los 14 partidos integrantes de la Unión Nacional Opositora (UNO) para llevar a la presidencia a Violeta Barrios de Chamorro y derrotar a Daniel Ortega, del Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional FSLN), el 25 de febrero de 1990, las cuales ganó la UNO con el 54 % de los votos.

Dispone de mayoría en la Asamblea Nacional de Nicaragua. El partido formó parte de la Internacional Liberal hasta el año 2005. Debido a que el Presidente Alemán acordó con el FSLN reducir hasta 35 % el porcentaje mínimo para obtener la Presidencia de la República y posteriormente el liberalismo se dividió en dos (se fundó la Alianza Liberal Nicaragüense ALN), favoreció la victoria del actual presidente Daniel Ortega Saavedra, para su segundo período (2007 - 2012) con un 38% de los votos contra el 62 % de personas que votaron por otros 4 partidos, incluido el Movimiento Renovador Sandinista (MRS) y la Alternativa por el Cambio - AC.

ENG - The Constitutionalist Liberal Party (Spanish: ' Partido Liberal Constitucionalista, PLC) is an opposition political party in Nicaragua. At the legislative elections, held on 5 November 2006, the party won 25 of 92 seats in the National Assembly.

The Constitutionalist Liberal Party is the political successor of the Liberal Party, a faction which has existed since Nicaragua became independent during the 1830s. After being defeated by the conservatives in a civil war in the 1850s (with the help of American troops), the Liberal Party returned to power in 1893 under President Jose Santos Zelaya, who lost power in 1909. Under pressure from American troops who had occupied Nicaragua, the liberals lost power the following year, and remained out of power until 1926 when, following another revolt, they forced the conservatives into a coalition government. Some factions of the Liberal Party, along with some factions of the Conservative Party, supported Anastasio Somoza Garcia, who gained power in the 1930s, defeating another liberal faction led by Augusto Sandino, who continued fighting after the 1926 coalition agreement. The liberals and conservatives were both marginalized by the Somoza family, who formed the Liberal Nationalist Party, and continued to be out of power when the Somozas were overthrown by the Sandinista National Liberation Front in 1979.

The liberal party had by this time split into many groups, many of which supported the United Nicaraguan Opposition which successfully opposed the Sandinistas in the 1990 elections. By the late 1990s, led by Arnoldo Alemán, most of the liberal groups consolidated to form the Constitutionalist Liberal Party, which was at first known as the Liberal Alliance. In 1996 Alemán won the presidential election and served as president until 2002, while the party won 42 of the 93 seats in the 1996 congressional elections, more than any other party.
