Labour: Energy Retrofit Scheme could create 30000 jobs ‎

The Labour Party has said 30,000 construction jobs could be created with a National Retrofit Scheme.Launching their plan for Green Energy Jobs in Dublin today, the party said 1.2 million homes are in need of improving their energy efficiency.Having regard to the lack of funding available for new schemes, Labour said that homeowners may have to pay for the retrofitting themselves.Energy spokeswoman Liz McManus said ESB and Bord Gais have been approached to organise a scheme whereby people can pay for the cost of the retrofit on their energy bills. 04/02/2011 Source: ...

Ireland's Labour wld cut deficit to 4.8 pct by 2014‎

Ireland's Labour Party proposed on Thursday reducing Ireland's budget deficit to 4.8 percent of GDP by 2014, and reducing it to below the EU limit of 3 percent no later than 2016. Labour, favourites to enter government with the main opposition Fine Gael party after a Feb. 25 poll, said 4 billion of its proposed 7 billion euro budgetary savings between 2012 and 2014 would come from expenditure savings. The leader of Ireland's Labour party, tipped to be part of the next government, labelled European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet as a civil servant who will go along with any renegotiation of the country's IMF/EU deal.
