According to a statement issued by the Kurdish Democratic Party of Iran (KDP), in the morning of July 28, 1996, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (Sepah-e Pasdaran) crossed the Iraqi border area of Marivan and entered the Iraqi Kurdish territory. The Revolutionary Guard forces included 2000 troops equipped with heavy artillery. They attacked the headquarters of KDP of Iran and the Kurdish refugee camps located at the Kuy-e Sanjaq area.
