Just a week after President Barack Obama was re-elected as President of the United States, seven petitions, including North Carolina, have reached the minimum number of signatures needed asking that their state secede from the U.S. The petitions, started by residents and not government officials, have gone viral since they were posted on the White House's website last week. PITTSBORO — The Pittsboro man who started a petition on The White House website asking that the State of North Carolina be allowed to secede from the United States doesn’t expect anything to come of the petition. “I’m a realist,” said Randy Dye, a Tea Party activist who lives outside of Pittsboro in Chatham County.
