Mischaël Modrikamen

Mischaël Modrikamen (né à Charleroi, le 22 février 1966) est un avocat et un homme politique belge. Devenu une personnalité en tant qu'avocat en défendant collectivement certains actionnaires minoritaires de la banque Fortis dans le contexte du Fortisgate en 2008; il crée en 2010 un nouveau parti politique de droite, le Parti populaire. Il fera campagne comme tête de liste de ce parti à la chambre pour l'arrondissement de Bruxelles-Hal-Vilvorde pour les élections législatives fédérales belges de 2010 mais ne sera pas élu. Il fait régulièrement parler de lui en Belgique par des déclarations ou actions de choc, décrites par ses détracteurs comme réactionnaires et populistes.

Inculpation

Président du conseil d'administration de la société Donaldson, les circonstances ayant entouré la faillite de celle-ci lui valent une inculpation pour faux et blanchiment le 25 mars 2010. Il rétorque par le dépôt d'une plainte contre X pour "dénonciations calomnieuses", estimant que cette inculpation serait uniquement destinées à nuire à son engagement politique.

Engagement au sein de la communauté juive

De 2000 à 2003 il a été président de la Communauté israélite libérale de Belgique. Au début des années 2000, il a été l'avocat de la communauté juive dans les négociations sur les biens spoliés sous l'occupation.

Dans une tribune libre publiée par La Libre Belgique le 24 novembre 2002, il compare l'appel au boycott des produits israéliens par Oxfam au boycott des produits juifs par les nazis dans les années 1930.

Carrière politique

Le 11 septembre 2009, il annonce la création d'un nouveau parti politique de droite, le Parti populaire (inspiré du Partido Popular), en néerlandais Personenpartij, pour le 26 novembre 2009. Il est rejoint dans cette entreprise politique par Rudy Aernoudt, ex-fondateur du parti LiDé, et en 2010 par Joël Rubinfeld, président sortant du Conseil de coordination des organisations juives de Belgique. Le cofondateur du Parti Populaire Rudy Aernoudt en sera exclu en août 2010 (il contestera cette exclusion en attaquant Modrikamen en justice), de même que son unique élu à la Chambre des Représentants de Belgique, Laurent Louis en janvier 2011.

Mishaël Modrikamen (born in Charleroi, February 22, 1966) is a Belgian lawyer and politician. He is the leader of the conservative liberal political party Parti Populaire. 

Political career

As early as the beginning of the years 2000s, Mischaël Modrikamen was a vocal defender of the fight of our western democracies against Islamism. He published strong opinions in leading newspapers in that respect.After witnessing the absence of vision of most Belgian politicians in the Fortis case as well as the absence of truly conservative party on the Belgian French speaking political scene, Mischaël Modrikamen announced in June 2009 that it would lauch its own political movement.

On November 26, 2009, Modrikamen officially created the Parti Populaire (PP) based on the values of justice, responsibility and solidarity. Without substantial funding and without access to the media, especially TV debates preceding the elections, the Parti Populaire nevertheless obtained 4% of the vote in Brussels and Wallonia and its first deputy. In November 2010, Mischaël Modrikamen criticized “reasonable accommodations” when applied on a religious purpose. In June 2010, Modrikamen claimed that "zero tolerance policy" has decreased Cureghem's crime rate by 30%. (Cureghem is a Brussels neighbourhood).

On September 2, 2011, Mischaël Modrikamen declared on Twizz Radio that "Islam has indeed some fascist aspects" but said that "Islam as a private religion causes no particular problems". A language the population has been waiting for so long", he added.
