He is a member of the Democratic Party. The district is located in the southeastern corner of the state, and includes Wilmington and part of Fayetteville. Early life, education and career McIntyre is a lifelong resident of Lumberton. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Morehead Scholar, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa as a political science major in 1978 and received his Juris Doctor in 1981.
