At age 52, she is the second youngest and the first female Chief Justice to lead the judiciary. In August 2010, she was appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, the first appointee to the High Court of Philippine President Benigno Aquino III. MANILA, Philippines — Despite absence of any mention about the judiciary during President Aquino’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) Monday, Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno said she remains hopeful that the government will also help address problems in the judiciary.
