ENG: Margaret Mary Ritchie (born 25 March 1958) is an Irish politician who was the Leader of the Social Democratic and Labour Party from 2010 to 2011. She was previously the Minister for Social Development from 2007 to 2010, when she was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Down. Political career Ritchie is a graduate of Queen's University, Belfast and served as parliamentary assistant to Eddie McGrady MP from 1987 to 2003. Ritchie became a councillor on Down District Council in 1985 and was Vice-Chairman (1992–93) and Chairman of the Council (1993–1994). Margaret Ritchie resigns from Stormont Executive

The SDLP leader and South Down MP and Assembly member Margaret Ritchie has formally resigned from the Stormont Executive. Her position as Minister for Social Development has been taken by her party colleague, Alex Attwood, who represents west Belfast.
