ENG - Manuel "Mar" Araneta Roxas II (born May 13, 1957) is a former Senator of the Philippines. He is the son of former Senator Gerry Roxas, and the grandson of former President Manuel Roxas and industrialist J. Amado Araneta.
A graduate of the Wharton School of Economics, Roxas worked as an investment banker, mobilizing venture capital funds for small and medium enterprises. He served as the Representative of the 1st District of Capiz from 1993 to 2000. His stint as Congressman was cut short after he was appointed by President Joseph Estrada as Secretary of Trade and Industry. He resigned from the position at the height of the EDSA Revolution of 2001 and was later re-appointed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in her new Cabinet. MAR Roxas’s acceptance of the DOTC post proves once more that he is a wimp. After being bandied about as Aquino’s Chief of Staff, and after much hoopla about his being Chief Adviser to the President, he has now settled for a junior cabinet post. In fact, the DOTC is less than a junior cabinet post, far outranked by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs or by the Secretary of Finance or the DILG, or by his former post under Gloria Macapagal as Secretary of Trade and Industry.

MANILA — President Benigno S. Aquino III formally swore in former Senator Mar Roxas as Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communications in simple ceremonies held in Malacañang Monday.
The President had earlier announced the appointment of Roxas to replace former Secretary Jose de Jesus who resigned last June 30.
In an interview, Roxas said he was thankful for the trust and confidence of President Aquino in appointing him as top dog of the DoTC, adding that he would do his best in order to repay the President's trust.
