War of words after walkout at Buthelezi ‘history lecture’


AN AFRICAN National Congress (ANC) Youth League meeting with Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi has triggered a war of words between the league and the IFP youth. According to Mr Buthelezi, the youth league walked out of Monday’s meeting while he was making his presentation. He was livid that the league refused to hold a press briefing alongside him. IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi has lashed out at a former IFP councillor, who, he says, orchestrated the arrest of his daughter and two other party members on intimidation charges. The IFP Youth Brigade in KwaZulu-Natal and the party's senior leaders have moved to close ranks after a bruising public spat over the youth wing's calls for a change in the party's leadership. At the weekend the chairmen of the brigade's 11 KZN districts apologised to the party and its leader, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, for "harm that may have been caused to (his) legacy".
