Juan Carlos Latorre

Juan Carlos Latorre Carmona (n. Santiago, 25 de marzo de 1949) es un ingeniero y político demócratacristiano chileno. Actualmente, es diputado y presidente de su colectividad. Está casado en segundas nupcias con Ximena Rincón y tiene seis hijos.

Vida política

Descatacado militante Demócrata Cristiano, a lo largo de su vida ha asumido importantes tareas en el ámbito político y gramial.

Durante su juventud fue Presidente del Centro de Alumnos de la Escuela de Ingeniería, dirigente de la Federación de Estudiantes de la Universidad de Chile FECH, Presidente de la Democracia Cristiana Universitaria y Vicepresidente de la Juventud Demócrata Cristiana.

En el ámbito profesional ejerció la Presidencia del Consejo Metropolitano del Colegio de Ingenieros entre 1983-1987 y fue Miembro Honorario del Consejo Nacional de la Asamblea de la Civilidad.

En 1987 dirigió la Guardia Papal, que colaboró en la visita apostólica de S.S. Juan Pablo II.

En 1989 fue electo Diputado por el Distrito 35 de la VI Región, cargo que ocupó hasta 1998, tras ser reelecto en 1993. Durante dicho periodo llegó a ser Vicepresidente de la Cámara de Diputados.

En 1998 el Presidente Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle lo nombra Subsecretario de Obras Públicas; cargo en el que fue ratificado por el Presidente Ricardo Lagos en marzo de 2000. Destacó en su rol de subsecretario por su trabajo permanente en terreno y por el rol que le cupo en las operaciones de emergencia a raíz de los temporales y catástrofes que afectaron a gran parte del país, así como por los cuestionamientos a su rol en el caso MOP GATE que afecto directamente a la cartera en la cual se desempeñaba, vinculandola a hechos de corrupción.

En diciembre de 2005 fue elegido diputado para el período 2006-2010.

Es Presidente de la Comisión de Obras Públicas, Transportes y Telecomunicaciones de la Cámara de Diputados de Chile. Además, integra la Comisión de Vivienda y Urbanismo.

Vida profesional

Desde 1997 ha sido Académico de la Universidad de Chile, gerente de proyectos y consultor de la CEPAL y el PNUD. Por sus conocimientos en el ámbito de las políticas públicas, asumió la Presidencia de la Corporación ITS Chile -Sistemas Inteligentes de Transporte-, desde allí ha incentivado la alianza público-privada para el desarrollo y aplicación de tecnologías avanzadas de información, comunicación y control para mejorar la movilidad de personas, medios y mercancías en las infraestructuras varias existentes.
