Administrator Stanhope soon to be returned to us
The ABC has news on Jon Stanhope’s stand against the Government out on Christmas Island: Christmas Island’s administrator Jon Stanhope says he will have to reconsider his position if told not to speak publicly about boat arrivals. So when is a social media sackable offence not a sackable offence??
Well, when the offender is a former politician. A relatively junior public servant, Michaela Banerji, was sacked from the APS for expressing negative views about current policy on asylum seekers, yet public servant Jon Stanhope appears to be allowed complete freedom to express similar views (the journalist disguised the comments as referring to “ALP” policy, [...]
The Arboretum’s Advisory Board unveiled
This week’s summary of cabinet outcomes includes the appointment of a National Arboretum of Canberra Advisory Board. And the sacred cows are: – Mr John Mackay (Chair); – Ms Jocelyn Plovits; – Mr David Marshall; – Mr Bob Winnel; – Ms Anne Duncan; – Mr Eric Koundouris; – Mr Jon Stanhope; – Professor Cris Brack; – Mr Gary Rake; and – Ms Fay Steward.
Stanhope to administer Christmas Island
The Canberra Times reports that Canberra’s longest serving Chief Minister, and refugee activist, is going to take the quasi colonial role of administering Christmas Island, home to a major asylum seeker concentration camp.
