In the bluest of blue states, a Democratic congressman likely headed for re-election next year fell back on tired clichés as he tried to defend his president.
"He is the champion for all the people,'' was the best 1st District U.S. Rep. John Larson could come up with at a town meeting in Rocky Hill this week when pressed to explain President Obama's unwillingness to fight back. "He is going to come out and you are going to see the champ."

"Helping them is not only the honorable thing to do, it’s also the smart economic thing to do. Which is why President Obama included measures to help get our veterans back to work in his jobs package. And why Democrats in Congress pressed so hard to see these measures passed.
"Today’s vote is a win for our veterans. It’s a win for our economy. And it shows that Democrats and Republicans can work together to get something done. Now we n
