House Republicans Volley Back At Biden

Adding more fuel to the fire in the spat between the GOP and Vice President Joe Biden, conservative lawmakers slammed Democrats' "runaway federal spending" in a conference call with reporters this morning. "Evidently, nothing excites a liberal Democrat more than the pornography of excessive spending," said Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Calif., who was "absolutely stunned to see Joe Biden's quote." The vice president insisted on Tuesday that, "We're turning this around. Now, it's not happening as fast as any of us would like, and certainly not fast enough for the millions of folks who are still out of ...

Fleming Claims “Solyndra Affair Has Harmed People ...

The House Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on the future of oil and natural gas development — the 20th oversight hearing that House Republicans have called on drilling, compared to only four on renewable energy development. While Rep. Don Young (R-AK) took home the quirk prize by sporting a propeller-topped beanie that he said represented President Obama’s energy policy, one of the strangest assertions came from Representative John Fleming (R-LA), who followed up a question to Secretary Salazar about whether fracking had caused any “deaths or serious injuries to ...

Multi-Millionaire Rep. Says He Can’t Afford A Tax Hike

Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) appeared on MSNBC with Chris Jansing this morning to attack President Obama’s new deficit reduction plan, which includes some tax increases on the wealthy. Taking up the typical GOP talking point, Fleming said raising taxes on wealthy “job creators” is a terrible idea that kills jobs because many of these people are small business owners who pay taxes through personal income rates. Fleming is himself a businesses owner, so Jansing asked, “If you have to pay more in taxes, you would get rid of some of those employees?” Fleming responded by ...

House Passes Fleming Bill Honoring Shreveport Judge
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after the House passed S. 2754 to name the U.S. Federal Court House in Shreveport after Tom Stagg, for his distinguished career as a federal judge for the Western District of Louisiana.    After high school, Judge Stagg valiantly served in WWII where he rose to the rank of Captain and earned the Combat Infantry Badge, a Bronze Star for Valor, a second Bronze star for meritorious service, and the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster. Following his service, Tom Stagg started his career as a jurist and then was nominated to serve as a federal judge for the Western District of Louisiana in 1974. He held the position of Chief Judge from 1984 to 1991, at which point he maintained a full caseload until his passing in 2015.   “A pillar within his occupation and the salt within his community, Judge Stagg’s life was an example to us all. He commanded respect whenever he entered a room and was
Fleming Celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the Hyde Amendment
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Hyde amendment, long-standing federal policy that prohibits taxpayer dollars from funding abortions.   “The forethought of Rep. Henry Hyde’s amendment has been instrumental in saving the lives of approximately 2 million innocent children. First enacted on September 30, 1976, babies given the chance at life under this critical federal policy are now mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, daughters and sons. Once thought inconvenient, 40 years later these men and women are the voice of generations of Americans.     “A majority of Americans agree that the government should not be funding abortions, a procedure that destroys developing human life—lives full of potential. This is why I support sending the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion bill to the President’s desk, enshrining the life-affirming Hyde amendment into permanent law.
Fleming Comments on New Orleans Sanctuary City Policy
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after the Judiciary Committee held a hearing today on the sanctuary city policy of New Orleans, LA. “Louisiana AG Jeff Landry testified powerfully and effectively on behalf of our state. He advocated for the rule of law and against the Holder Justice Department conspiring with Mayor Landrieu to subvert our immigration laws and let illegal immigrants run free. Today’s hearing made it clear that President Obama and New Orleans mayor have a pro-illegal immigration agreement. The Mayor’s own representative at the hearing said, ‘our officers under this policy do not inquire about a person’s immigration status.’   “Louisiana is no stranger to tragedy resulting from illegal immigration. St. John the Baptist Parish Fire Chief Spencer Chauvin lost his life when he was struck by an illegal immigrant driving a bus for which he was not licensed from New Orleans to Baton Rouge.”
Fleming Mourns Death of Shimon Peres
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement in response to the passing of Shimon Peres, the former President and Prime Minister of Israel.   “It was with great sadness that I learned Shimon Peres passed away this week. During his nearly 60 years in public service, Mr. Peres held almost every position in Israel from Prime Minister to President. He was one of Israel’s founding fathers, and well respected across the globe. So respected that he even won the Novel Peace Prize in 1994 for his peace negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians. While we mourn his loss we will also remain grateful for the lasting contributions he made to Israel and the Middle East.”
