He was the 44th Governor of Wisconsin, serving from January 6, 2003 to January 3, 2011. He defeated incumbent Governor Scott McCallum by a margin of 45 percent to 41 percent; the Libertarian Party candidate Ed Thompson carried 10 percent of the vote. Although in 2002 Democrats increased their number of governorships, Doyle was the only one of them to unseat a sitting Republican governor. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republican Gov. Scott Walker has spent more than $59,000 on air travel during his first six months in office, a little more than his Democratic predecessor spent over the same period last year. The Wausau Daily Herald says former Gov. Jim Doyle spent about $56,000 on 27 flights in the first six months of 2010. The newspaper reviewed Walker's travel records for the 17 trips he took between January and June 21. MADISON, Wis. — Gov.-elect Scott Walker has asked outgoing Gov. Jim Doyle's administration to stop federal health care reforms in Wisconsin, halt negotiations on state workers' contracts and stop updating state agencies' rules.
