U.S. Sen. Jack Reed is pushing federal legislation that would give Rhode Island fisherman a voice on another regional fishery management council. The bill would add Rhode Island to the list of seven states that have voting representation on the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council. Reed Announces New Funding to Prevent Youth Suicides


Forty-four thousand young people take their lives every year, and Senator Jack Reed hopes that new federal funding will help stop youth suicides in Rhode Island. On Thursday, the Senator announced that the Rhode Island Youth Suicide Prevention Project is getting $480,000 in federal funding. The money will be used for education programs in schools around the state. It will also be spent on screening kids who are at risk of suicide and on a media campaign to reach out to adults who may have suicidal thoughts.
