Howard Berman Wins California 28
Representative Howard Berman of California's 28th District has won his fourteenth bid for Congress, after running uncontested in this year's election cycle. Berman has been an exceptional force in the House, bringing his experience and oversight to an impressive number of bills relating to international affairs budgets and peacekeeping matters. As Chair of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Berman has been instrumental in brokering the deal on President Bush's anti-AIDS initiative, amongst other achievements. GlobalSolutions.org has recognized Berman's efforts, and most recently awarded the Representative an A+ in our Congressional Report Card for voting the way CGS would on many of the international issues. We at CGS are excited and honored in congratulating Berman on another term in office. Capitol Hill Election News & Analysis Elections & PAC Miscellaneous Tags:  elections 2008
Congress' Global Health Agenda for 2013
Sally Cowal, Senior Vice President & Chief Liaison Officer, PSI As we celebrate last week’s inauguration and the 113th Congress’ first few weeks in session, I naturally reflect on the last couple of years. The 112th Congress was full of intense debates, a consuming election and suitably ended with a dramatic, last-minute deal on the fiscal cliff. Thankfully, global health retained strong bipartisan support during even the gravest times of political and economic uncertainty. Looking forward, PSI is encouraged by this new Congress’ potential support of global health programs. The 113th Congress has an incredible opportunity to expand the global health progress of its predecessors. Each congressional member is in a uniquely powerful position to shape the health, and, ultimately, the future of millions of people globally. With Washington increasingly under attack, the 113th has a chance to show the American people how U.S. foreign assistance saves lives with efficient, transparen
Naked conspiracy: Ackerman says ‘first class team’ of 5 Jewish, pro-Israel congressional chairs has ‘major, major, major influence’ on Obama
The Forward’s Nathan Guttman has a fine piece of reporting up about how the Israeli right is hoping that the Congress will change hands next week. The best part of the piece is where the Congressional Democrats protest, Hey we love Israel just as much, even more! Read this with your eyes open. I know, […]
Neo-con view (this time on Turkey) still heard loud and clear in Washington
Barack Obama may have taken the helm of the White House, but neo-conservative influence, disastrous as it was during the Bush years, has certainly not been swept away in Washington, D.C. This fact was on display yesterday morning at a House Committee on Foreign Affairs hearing titled “Turkey’s New Foreign Policy Direction: Implications for U.S.-Turkish […]
