ENG: The Gibraltar Socialist Labour Party (GSLP) is the oldest surviving active political party in Gibraltar. Its grass roots are deep in the Trade Union Movement, as its founder and leader Joe Bossano was the District Officer of the Trade and General Workers Union (TGWU). Elections The GSLP is currently in Opposition in Alliance with the Gibraltar Liberal Party. At the 2003 election election to the House of Assembly, the GSLP/Libs polled 41% of the vote, with the GSD polling 51% and other parties 8% which returned 7 of the GSLP/Lib members (5 GSLP, 2 Liberal) to the House of Assembly as Opposition with 8 members of the GSD forming the Government. The Gibraltar Socialist Labour Party held its Annual General Meeting last night at a packed John Macintosh Hall Theatre. The GSLP was boosted by a massive attendance of its rank and file membership. Why are the GSLP/Libs undermining Gibraltar's case on sovereignty? In an attempt to make local political capital in their quest for votes and power they give to Spain arguments that they could and would not use against Gibraltar. This a a bad addiction that they do not seem able to overcome.Why do they say “It would be totally unacceptable to have a building on the Spanish side which is called the “north terminal” or worse still “La Linea airport” and in the same breath, by restating the obvious, bring into doubt that the airport is ‘Gibraltar airport’ ...
