التيار الوطني الحر فكرة نشأت في 1990 بعد نفي العماد ميشال عون إلى باريس وقد تطور من حركة سرية إلى تيار شعبي منظم بقوانين داخلية. أصبح التيار الوطني الحر حزباً في أيلول 2005 بعدعودة ميشال عون من منفاه الباريسي في 7 أيار 2005. وفي اعقاب عودته بعد خروج القوات السورية من لبنان، تحالف مع تيار المردة خلال الانتخابات النيابية وتحالف فيما بعد مع حزب الله وشكل هذا التحالف داعماً أساسياً لحزب الله.

BEIRUT - Two grenades were thrown on Thursday at an office of Lebanese Christian leader Michel Aoun's Free Patriotic Movement, which is allied with Hezbollah, a security official said.
