Sharing experiences of his visit to Jammu and Kashmir as part of the all-party delegation, party MP Gurudas Dasgupta said the anger of the people of the Valley was not “unsubstantiated.” He demanded the withdrawal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) selectively, the release of all political ...

NEW DELHI: Communist Party of India national secretary D. Raja will tour Dantewada and Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh where the police are targeting his party cadres in the name of combating Maoists. Besides interacting with key CPI functionaries in the area, Mr. Raja has requested to meet Chief Minister Raman Singh about why the police was arresting activists of a “national and legitimate” party, and alleging that they were Maoists. “It is a deliberate attempt to target the CPI and terrorise the tribals of the region, particularly by a senior police official of the ...

Urgent Appeal for Party Election Fund
Dear Comrades and Friends,            Our Party and other left parties in particular and the Nation at large are facing an unprecedented challenge from the Rightwing forces spearheaded by Sangh Parivar and its affiliates with the total blessings of Prime Minster Narendra Modi. They are trying to destroy the secular-democratic fabric of the country by attacking the universities, all educational and cultural institutions student leaders, democracy, freedom of speech, right to dissent, minorities, dalits and communists.            They are shamelessly resorting to threats, physical attacks, and leveling dirty allegations against the Left and other opposition leaders by using the corporate controlled print and electronic media. An atmosphere of terror is being created through make-believe allegations by pseudo nationalists. This is an unprecedented attack on progressive, left and d
Contradictions Within Modi Govt Come to the Fore: CPI
Press ReleaseThe Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement on December 27, 2016 highlighting the contradictions within the government over ways and means to ensure higher national revenues:  The Central Secretariat of the CPI feels that the cat is out of the bag as Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley contradicts Prime Minister Narendra Modi just 24 hours after he highlighted on December 25, 2016 the need for imposing a levy on the gains accrued from stock market investments, said that the government has no plans to impose any long-term capital gains tax on investments in stock markets. Speaking at a SEBI event on December 24, the prime minister termed the tax collection from securities market participants as low, and attributed it to the structure of tax laws and to possible fraud. The party is not certain whether it is a slip of the tongue or a calculated assertion to fool the masses again of being a crusader for their developmental agenda.
CPI National Council Meeting Adopted Nine Resolutions
RESOLUTION ON FORCED REDUCED RETURNS ON EPF(Adopted by N.C.)       The national council meeting at Hyderabad vehemently condemns the continuing attack on our workers by the Narendra Modi government, the latest being its decision to reduce the interest rate on the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) accumulations lying with the government and to curtail the prevailing benefits assured by the Employees State Insurance (ESI) to the employees and workers. It may be recalled here that the workers enjoy those benefits both the EPF and ESI statutory schemes adopted as Acts by Parliament.         The national council of CPI feels that the move to impose tax on EPF and restricted withdrawal options based on age from the EPF amounts to cheating of the worker members of both present and future. Therefore the council urges upon the government to roll back both the moves.         The meeting whi
CPI National Council Meeting Adopted Nine Resolutions
Resolution on Write off interest on Women Self Help Groups loans(Adopted by N.C.)         The demonetization has pushed common people into unprecedented miseries and sufferings. The daily wage employment has lost because of the refusal of the small and medium employers to engage the workers for lack of money for wages. The unorganized sector engages around 80% of the total workforce of our country is a cash based sector which is worst hit because of demonetization.                  Considering that 96% of the total women work force is in unorganized sector, the impact is more on the women through lose of work and wages. The income and investment of majority of these women and other unpaid women workers are through SHGs.          Because of the existing economic situation, it has become highly impossible for these women to repay
