Centre must take calculated risks in Kashmir: CPI

‘Situation is much graver than it appears to be' Describing the situation in Kashmir as “much graver” than it appeared to be, the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Wednesday said the Centre needed to take “calculated risks” to defuse it. Sharing experiences of his visit to Jammu and Kashmir as part of the all-party delegation, party MP Gurudas Dasgupta said the anger of the people of the Valley was not “unsubstantiated.” He demanded the withdrawal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) selectively, the release of all political ...

CPI activists in Chhattisgarh being targeted, says D. Raja

NEW DELHI: Communist Party of India national secretary D. Raja will tour Dantewada and Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh where the police are targeting his party cadres in the name of combating Maoists. Besides interacting with key CPI functionaries in the area, Mr. Raja has requested to meet Chief Minister Raman Singh about why the police was arresting activists of a “national and legitimate” party, and alleging that they were Maoists. “It is a deliberate attempt to target the CPI and terrorise the tribals of the region, particularly by a senior police official of the ...

The Communist Party of India (CPI) Sunday said West Bengal's ruling Left Front should not 'run like a one-party rule'. CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan, without naming anyone while taking a dig at the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), here said that every party should get its due respect. 'Currently we are having a Left Front government in the state. We are also part of this. We have to prepare for the coming assembly elections from now. The big party has to come forward and take the initiative. The Left Front should run like a front and not like a one-party rule. While ...

The Party sends its heartfelt condolences to the family members of the killed army personnel.            The Party wants to reiterate that terrorism of any kind is not going to solve the burning problems of the people, including the Kashmir issue. Appeal for Restrain on Cauvery Dispute
Press ReleaseThe Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has issued the following statement urging for peaceful negotiations over the sharing of Cauvery water:            The Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India notes with concern the violent agitations in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over the Supreme Court order asking the former to release Cauvery River water to Tamil Nadu, keeping in view the distress situation in both states created by deficit rainfall. It is quite unfortunate that kisan organisations and others have unleashed unprecedented violence over such a humanitarian issue. The drought situation aggravated the problem. Neighbouring states cannot afford enmity forever.            The water from the rivers, the Party would like to reiterate, is part and parcel of the national assets and absence of a national policy on rivers and sharing of
The Working Class Strike – What it means by S. Sudhakar Reddy

An intense anger of workers and employees is reflected in the strike. This is an unprecedented struggle.Banks, insurance companies, financial institutions, workers of big public sector companies including navaratnas, miniratnas, coal, steel and mine workers, ports, unorganized workers, school and university teachers, karmcharis of universities, state, and postal and defence production employees of the central government and almost all Asha and Anganwadi workers went on strike. Indian financial institutions observed a total bandh. Transports in many states were off the road. There was a total bandh like situation in Kerala, Karnataka, Puducherry, Telangana, Manipur, Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Punjab and many other states. It was moderately successful in other states also. The government issued routine statement that
KASHMIR
The All Party delegation to Kashmir has returned without any gain. The leader of the delegation, Union home minister Rajnath Singh has said that the Modi government will chalk out an “Action Plan” after  consulting the delegation members. It is a similar announcement that Rajnath Singh had made during his first visit after the turmoil. In place of taking any initiative, he announced  his place of stay in Srinagar and asked people, who so ever was ready, to come and meet. Both these reflect  how  much Union government is interested in ending the turmoil in the valley, leave apart  in finding a durable solution to the real problem of Kashmir. It took two months for the Modi government to agree to the proposal for an all party delegation, as it was busy in handling the situation, not to resolve the problem but to create an atmosphere that suits its ideological commitments. The turmoil that began with the killing of Burhan Wani in an encounter was almost locall
