Campbell Kevin Thomas Newman (born 12 August 1963) is the leader of the Liberal National Party of Queensland. He was the 15th Lord Mayor of Brisbane from 2004 to 2011. He was elected to the mayoralty in 2004 and re-elected in 2008. Newman's slogan during the 2004 and 2008 election campaigns was "Can Do". It is common for supporters to refer to him as "Can Do Campbell". At Duntroon, he was nicknamed "Noddy", in reference to his appearance during his time in the Army. Since July 2008, Newman and his Liberal council colleagues have been members of the merged Liberal National Party of Queensland. Jeff Seeney led the LNP state parliamentary opposition from September 2006 until January 2008 when he was ousted in favour of Lawrence Springborg. In March 2011, successive leader John-Paul ...
CAMPBELL Newman has agreed to visit the Southern Downs next month, Member for Southern Downs Lawrence Springborg has revealed. Mr Springborg contacted the Daily News this week to say he was working on the state LNP leader visiting Stanthorpe and Warwick on September 22 and 23. This confirmation came days after a non-committal response from Mr Newman's spokeswoman about when he would visit. “There is a function in Stanthorpe on the Thursday night we will attend and we will be going around and meeting with some of the community leaders,” Mr Springborg said. “We'll also look ...

Liberal National Party (LNP) leader Campbell Newman says he's happy for financial interests from his time as Brisbane lord mayor to be revealed. But he won't be releasing a new list ahead of the Queensland election. Mr Fraser said Mr Newman's unique position meant he should declare them anyway. Mr Newman ...

Protecting the Barrier Reef is the Fin end of the wedge When you take on a job like being Environment Minister there’s some hits you can see coming. You expect you’ll get a whack when you protect an endangered plant which if people saw in their garden, they’d presume was a weed. You know there’ll be some red hot political point scoring if jobs are meant to be put at risk to make way for the interests of some thrice mutated rare frog.
But what I never expected was to have the Queensland Liberal National Party go after me for wanting to look after koalas and the Great Barrier Reef.
Queensland Premier Campbell Newman had turned up to his first COAG meeting with the other Premiers and the Prime Minister saying he’d be willing to help speed up processing times for business by enforcing the national environmental standards when he gives state approvals. But only a fortnight later he flicked the switch from wanting to enforce those standards to wanting to tear them down. |
Some of my best friends are Jihadists! A QLD comeback Ahhhh Queensland. You’re so sunny and warm and mysterious.
In what other state would the Premier respond to claims of racism in his own ranks by telling the woman on the receiving end of a “Jihad” taunt to “harden up”? And where else would the same Premier compare cutting the rates of doctors and nurses to reforms in the “garbo” sector 40 years ago?
Campbell Newman might have been born in Canberra, but he may as well be from another planet from Federal Parliament, where even the slightest hint of sexism or racism sees the full force of modern politeness (or political correctness, depending on which side you’re on) rain down on the perpetrator’s head. |
These public sector drones are surplus to requirements Someone called “John Bulance” had a go at Queensland Premier Campbell Newman on Facebook. Within a couple of days nearly 30,000 people had “liked” the entry.
This is the sort of response which would be good for a minor celebrity, and unheard of for an anonymous state paramedic.
“I’ll take the 2.2% (wage) increase and loss of penalties if you and you’re (sic) ministers also take a reduction in pay. Please ride with us for a day to see what we really do,’’ said “John”. When The Punch looked at his site some 28,400 “like” notices were attached. |
Time to accept that soon, the climate science deniers will be in charge ANYONE who places any stock in safeguarding the current and future climate (and for that matter anyone who doesn’t) should prepare themselves for the risk that very soon, climate science deniers, contrarians and sceptics will be running the show. All the polls suggest that a Liberal-led coalition will sweep to power at next year’s Federal election. [...] |
