USA Today published a fascinating story Tuesday. According to sources who are fighting to topple the regime of Bashar Al-Assad, there is growing concern that al-Qaeda may be “hijacking” the efforts of the rebels for the purpose of establishing a new Islamic state in Syria. Toddler Fleeing Syria Found Crossing Desert Separated From Family
The war in Syria is a messy affair mired in the complexities of Middle East geopolitics, but sometimes an image can cut through the fog to illustrate a simple truth in a way no amount of words or numbers ever could. Such is the case with the photo CNN’s Hala Gorani tweeted on Monday. Government forces used barrel bombs, or drums packed with shrapnel and explosives able to level entire buildings in one hit, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The area of Ansari was targeted with 17 air strikes in four hours, CNN reports. Ten fighters from the radical Nusra Front were killed as well. A second round of peace talks is set to begin Feb. 10, but it is unclear whether the Syrian government will return to Geneva. The first round of talks got off to a shaky start, with Secretary of State John Kerry denouncing Syrian human-rights abuses and the Syrian government refusing to hold direct talks with the U.S. unl

During Senate testimony Thursday, July 18, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Martin Dempsey stated that he has provided “options” to President Obama for the possibility of using military force in Syria. The UK Daily Telegraph also reported that Dempsey, in his appearance before the Senate Armed Services Committee, indicated that he believed Syrian President Continue Reading
