الأمير بندر بن سلطان بن عبد العزيز آل سعود (2 مارس 1949)، الأمين العام لمجلس الأمن الوطني السعودي ورئيس الاستخبارات العامة. ولد في الطائف ووالده هو الأمير سلطان بن عبد العزيز آل سعود. متزوج من الأميرة هيفاء الفيصل رئيسة ومؤسسة جمعية زهرة لمكافحة سرطان الثدي في الرياض وهي ناشطة اجتماعية، له أربع أبناء وأربع بنات، ويعد الابن الثالث للأمير سلطان بن عبد العزيز بعد الأمير فهد بن سلطان امير منطقة تبوك.

حياته

تخرج من الكلية الملكية للقوات الجوية في كرانويل بإنجلترا وانضم بعدها لسلاح الجو السعودي في عام 1968 كطيار مقاتل لبضع سنوات.

قضى الأمير بندر بن سلطان بن عبد العزيز اثنين وعشرين سنه في السلك الدبلوماسي سفيراً للمملكة العربية السعودية لدى واشنطن، الولايات المتحدة، منذ 1983 وحتى 2005، كانت مليئة بالنشاط والعمل الجاد في سبيل بناء علاقات قويّة لبلاده مع واشنطن. ويوصف بأنه من أقرب الدبلوماسيين إلى الإدارة الأمريكية الجمهورية ويحظى بثقة خاصة، فقد كانت له صلات ممتازة بالرؤساء وكبار المسؤولين في الإدارات الجمهورية خلال سنوات عمله الماضية مما ساهم في وضع العلاقة السعودية الأمريكيّة في مرتبة عالية. وحتى حينما حصلت أحداث 11 سبتمبر وجرت عواصف شديدة على هذه العلاقة ظل الأمير بندر مدافعاً عن بلاده في مختلف المحافل والندوات والمناسبات مبيّناً للشعب الأمريكي وللمسؤولين أهمية ومتانة العلاقات الأمريكية السعودية وجهود الحكومة في مكافحة العنف ومحاربة الإرهاب، فهو يعتبر العراب الحقيقي للعلاقات السعودية الأمريكية في مرحلة اتسمت بشدة الحساسية. وقد اتهم بقضايا فساد اشهرها صفقة اليمامة ولكن تدخلت المملكة العربية السعودية و أوقفة التحقيق بعد أن تم البدء به بيوم وتم ذكر اسمه ضمن المتهمين

وكان الأمير بندر عميداً للسلك الدبلوماسي في واشنطن، وهو لقب يناله السفير صاحب أطول مدة خدمة بالعاصمة المعنية. صدر أمر يقضي بتعيين الأمير بندر بن سلطان بن عبدالعزيز آل سعود رئيسا لرئاسة الإستخبارات العامة إضافة إلى منصبه كأمينا عاما لمجلس الأمن الوطني بمرتبة وزير.

Bandar bin Sultan was appointed Director General of Saudi Intelligence Agency on 19 July 2012 replacing Muqrin bin Abdulaziz.Although no official reason for the appointment was provided,the appointment occurred after growing tension between Sunnis and Shiites in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. It was also considered as a move of Saudi Arabia to display more aggressive foreign policy given the regional challenges that comes from Iran and Syria. Prince Bandar is also a member of the Military Se. vice Council. Prince Bandar organized the visit of Manaf Tlass, who defected from Syria on 6 July 2012, to Saudi Arabia in the last week of July 2012.
