Congressman Andy Harris hit the boardwalk today to talk jobs with Ocean City business owners. In the wake of Hurricane Irene, boosting revenue and creating jobs is at the top of their agenda. Ocean City businesses are banking on this weekend to put them back in the black, and keeping a close eye on things, Congressman Andy Harris. "I'm very pleased to see how little damage was done here in Ocean City and they are open for business and everything is up and running and that's great news for the economy here in Ocean City," said Congressman Harris. And with the jobs report released Friday, job ...

Andy Harris seems content with new Congressional lines

When the new Congressional maps got adopted last week, many Republicans justifiably voiced their concerns. After all, it’s apparent that they will likely lose a seat in Washington . While many have publicly denounced the gerrymandered boundary lines, one elected Republican has only offered scant criticism. First District Congressman Andy Harris initially lost to Frank Kratovil in 2008. Two years later, the voters overturned themselves by electing Harris. Regardless, many presumed the First District would get drawn more favorably to Democrats through redistricting. In a surprise though, ...

House of Representatives Passes Medical Liability Reform
WASHINGTON, DC: On June 28, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1215, the Protecting Access to Care Act (PACA), by a 218-210 vote. This medical liability reform legislation will prevent lawsuit abuse by capping noneconomic damages and limiting contingency fees for attorneys. Dr. Andy Harris (MD-01) released the following statement in support of the legislation and passage: “PACA is a victory for patients that will increase access to high quality medical care and reduce health care costs. Lawsuit abuse forces physicians to practice defensive medicine, meaning that patients undergo unnecessary and expensive treatments to reduce the risk of litigation. This legislation will provide balanced protections for both patients and their providers, improve the quality of health care, lower the cost of premiums, and save the federal taxpayer tens of billions of dollars. This is a commonsense solution to lower the cost of care, and should have been passed under the Obama Administration year

Rep. Harris Applauds Passage of Kate’s Law and No Sanctuary for Criminals Act
WASHINGTON, DC: On June 29, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3003, the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act, and H.R. 3004, Kate’s Law. These bills will improve public safety by combating dangerous sanctuary city policies and strengthening penalties for deported criminal immigrants who re-enter the United States. Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) issued the following statement in support of these bills and their passage: “I am proud to have voted for the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act and Kate’s Law. These bills are commonsense solutions to preventing crime and keeping the American people safe. For years, the Obama Administration allowed criminal illegal immigrants to roam our streets and harm innocent Americans. Kate Steinle, the namesake of Kate’s Law, was shot and killed by an illegal immigrant in San Francisco – a sanctuary city. The man that killed Ms. Steinle had been deported and re-entered the United State five times – and if the San Francisco government had not al
