ALDE group: Turkish referendum is a step in the right direct

Reacting to Turkey's referendum result in support of constitutional reforms, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff (FDP, Germany), spokesperson for the ALDE group on EU-Turkey accession negotiations in the foreign affairs committee said:"This is a step in the right direction on Turkey's road to democratic reform. The majority of the 26 articles of the constitution that have been modified increase the rights of citizens vis-à-vis the State and limit the influence of the military over civilian rule. IORPs: will my children have a pension?
On 27th March 2014, the European Commission adopted a legislative proposal for new rules on Institutions for Occupational Retirement Provision, or pension funds (IORPs). The proposal aims at improving governance and transparency of these funds in Europe, promoting cross-border activity, and helping long-term investment. Different categories of stakeholders would be affected by the new rules: first of all citizens in general but in particular those who are mobile across borders in the course of their careers. Multinational companies would also benefit from the consolidation of their existing pension schemes (possibly in different Member States) into one occupational pension fund. Member States would benefit because well-governed occupational pension funds, and wider geographic coverage, are expected to reduce some of the fiscal pressure on state pension systems. Finally, employers, including SMEs, are expected to benefit through the reduced cost of joining an existing occupational
More defence for less money. ALDE Roadmap towards an integrated EU military.
The EU is facing a dramatically aggravated security environment in the East and South of its borders. At the same time, the financial crisis has led to drastic uncoordinated cuts in the defence budgets of the EU Member States. The EU's ability to project power into its neighbourhood is weak, most of its CSDP (Common Security and Defence Policy) operations are just too little, too late. While territorial defence of Western Europe continues to depend heavily on the US, several consecutive American administrations have been urging Europeans to take more responsibility for their own security within NATO. The European Council has so far taken only small steps to encourage greater cooperation among Member States – clearly insufficient, if one looks at the alarming and deteriorating circumstances. On the eve of the European Council on Defence of 25th June, ALDE will present its 'Roadmap towards an Integrated EU Military' to show the way how to achieve more European defence for less money,
Debt relief for Greece only as part of a structural solution for all eurozone-countries
Debt relief for Greece should only be agreed if it is part of a structural solution to the benefit of all countries in the Eurozone. A new haircut only for Greece would not be fair to the other countries subject to a European adjustment programme, says Guy Verhofstadt, leader of the European Liberals and Democrats in the European Parliament.
Greek deal could mark new beginning but implementation must be democratically overseen by EP
European Liberal and Democrats leader Guy Verhofstadt's reaction on the deal reached with Greece to set in motion a third bailout package:
