ENG: The Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) is the current liberal/centrist political group of the European Parliament. It is made up of MEPs from two Europarties, the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party and the European Democratic Party, which collectively form the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe.
ALDE is one of the three oldest Groups, dating its unofficial origin back to September 1952 and the first meeting of the Parliament's predecessor, the Common Assembly. Founded as an explicitly Liberal Group, it has expanded its remit to cover the different centrist traditions of each new Member State as they acceded to the Union, progressively changing its name in the process.

Commission backs Parliament's call for candidates for Commission President Following the Commission's recommendation to Member States today concerning the European elections in 2014, Andrew Duff (Lib Dem, UK), ALDE constitutional affairs spokesperson said:
"The Commission is right to back Parliament's call for the political parties to nominate their candidates for the next presidency of the Commission. The arrival of party political champions on the scene will dramatise the European Parliamentary election campaign across Europe, and offer the voters a real choice between competing policies and personalities."
Qualitative Development vs. Quantitative Growth The economic crisis that has been ongoing for several years now questions our current economic model and solutions so far implemented to address it. The economic crisis is also creating instability and unpredictability for both consumers and businesses. Austerity measures and the methods which governments are using to face existing challenges are currently leading to poor results and calls for the development of alternative thinking and methods in order to pave the way to a sustainable recovery, and set up the basis of a post-crisis economic and social model.
The seminar aims at triggering a debate about our current economic growth model and its results in fighting the crisis.
