وقد دعى الحزب الديمقراطي الكردستاني صدام لأن محاربة الاتحاد الوطني الكردستاني فاحتلت قوات صدام معسكرات المؤتمر الوطني العراقي وقتل 98 من محاربين المؤتمر.

تثير شخصية الجلبي الكثيرا من الاعجاب، فهو دارس للرياضيات في جامعة شيكاجو ثم بمعهد ماساشوستس للتكنولوجيا، فهو يتمتع بشخصية جذابة وقوية وصاحب خبرة في السياسة لايستهان بها.

وهناك أيضا مزاعم بارتكابه مخالفات مالية تصل إلى حد الجنايات. ففي عام 1992 حكم عليه غيابيا في محطمة عسكرية أردنية بتهمة انهيار مصرف بترا، الذي شارك في تأسيسه عام 1977. وبعد مرض الملك حسين ومكوثه في مستشفى مايو في شيكاغو، التقى بالجلبي واعترف بأن المحكمة العسكرية كانت لارضاء صدام حسين وبرأ الجلبي من جميع المزاعم.

وخلال مقابلات أخيرة، قلل الجلبي من احتمالات أن يتولى دورا رئيسيا في أي حكومة مقبلة في العراق. وقال " شخصيا، لن أسعى لكي اصبح رئيسا للعراق، ولا ابحث عن المناصب. ومهمتي ستنتهي بتحرير العراق من حكم صدام حسين".

دعا الجلبي إلى تشكيل حكومة ائتلافية لنقل البلاد إلى حكم ديمقراطي ببناء فيدرالي يمثل جميع الاعراق والطوائف.

ويحظى الجلبي بدعم في العديد من القطاعات داخل الكونجرس الأمريكي ووزارة الدفاع (البنتاجون)، ولكن يعتقد أنه لا يحظى بدعم يذكر بين أوساط المعارضات الأخرى التي تنأى بنفسها عن المؤتمر الوطني العراقي.

وكان جلبي قد تبنى خطة "المدن الثلاث" التي ترمي إلى أن يقوم المنتفضون بالاستيلاء على عدد من المناطق الرئيسية، ثم عزل وتطويق صدام.

ولكن تلك الخطة لا تحظى بدعم يذكر بين الحكومات العربية المجاورة، التي قالت إنها لن تسمح للجلبي بأن يقود جيشا لتحرير العراق من أراضيها.

في عام 1998 قام الرئيس الأمريكي بيل كلينتون بإقرار خطة لإنفاق نحو 90 مليون دولار لمساعدة المعارضة العراقية، وخصوصا المؤتمر الوطني العراقي بهدف الإطاحة بنظام صدام. Ahmed Abdel Hadi Chalabi (Arabic: أحمد الجلبي‎) (born 30 October 1944) is an Iraqi politician. He was interim oil minister in Iraq in April-May 2005 and December-January 2006 and deputy prime minister from May 2005 until May 2006. Chalabi failed to win a seat in parliament in the December 2005 elections, and when the new Iraqi cabinet was announced in May 2006, he was not given a post. Once dubbed the "George Washington of Iraq" by American supporters, he has fallen out of favor and is currently under investigation by several U.S. government sources. Chalabi is a controversial figure, especially in the United States, for many reasons.
