अभिषेक मनु सिंघवी (जन्म - 24 फ़रवरी, 1959) एक भारतीय राजनीतिज्ञ हैं जो भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस पार्टी से संबंधित हैं और वर्तमान में भारतीय संसद के एक सदस्य हैं जो भारतीय संसद के उच्च सदन राज्य सभा में राजस्थान का प्रतिनिधित्व करते हैं. वर्तमान में वे कांग्रेस पार्टी के प्रवक्ता हैं.

 

प्रारंभिक जीवन

अभिषेक सिंघवी का जन्म जोधपुर, राजस्थान में कमला और लक्ष्मी मल सिंघवी के यहां हुआ था, उनके पिता एक प्रख्यात वकील और ब्रिटेन में भारत के पूर्व उच्च आयुक्त थे, और भारतीय जनता पार्टी से संबंधित थे.

 

उन्होंने सेंट कोलम्बिया स्कूल, सेंट स्टीफन कॉलेज, दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय, कैम्ब्रिज विश्वविद्यालय, ब्रिटेन और हार्वर्ड विश्वविद्यालय, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में पढ़ाई की है. उन्होंने कैम्ब्रिज विश्वविद्यालय के सर विलियम वेड के तहत अपना पीएचडी पूरा किया है. कैम्ब्रिज विश्वविद्यालय में उनकी डॉक्टरेट शोध प्रबंध का विषय एमरजेंसी पॉवर्स (आपातकालीन शक्तियां) था.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi (born 24 February 1959) is an Indian politician belonging to Indian National Congress party, he is also a Member of the Parliament of India representing Rajasthan in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He was formerly the spokesperson of the Congress party.

 

Early life

Abhishek was born on 24 February 1959 in Jaipur, Rajasthan. His father Dr. Laxmi Mall Singhvi was a renowned lawyer and India's former High Commissioner to the UK. He was elected to Rajya Sabha (1998–2004) as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His mother’s name is Kamla Singhvi. He completed his high school from St. Columba's School. He obtained B.A.(Hons.), M.A., Ph.D., PIL educated at St. Stephen's College, Trinity College, Cambridge and Harvard University . Singhvi completed his Ph.D. under constitutional lawyer Sir William Wade of Cambridge University. The topic of his doctoral dissertation at Cambridge University was on Emergency Powers.

Sex tape controversy

In 2012, there was a sex tape released of Abhishek Singhvi where allegedly he was seen having sex with a senior female lawyer. The Delhi High Court restrained a media house from publishing, telecasting and broadcasting the contents of the sex tape. Singhvi claimed that such a CD either does not exist or if it does, it is clearly and obviously morphed, fabricated and forged. Later, on 18 April, Congress party, the party to which Singhvi belongs released a statement declaring that the CD was a personal matter of the senior lawyer. On 19 April the video went public on Facebook, YouTube and other social networking sites. Singhvi then blamed social media sites for sensationalism and claimed an organised gang was involved in broadcasting CD contents. despite a court injunction. On 23 April 2012 he quit as chairperson of Parliament Standing Committee on Law and Justice and as the Congress spokesperson.
