முத்துவேல் கருணாநிதி, (ஆங்கிலம்: M. Karunanidhi) இவரது இயற் பெயர் தட்சிணாமூர்த்தி (பிறப்பு ஜூன் 3, 1924) திராவிட முன்னேற்றக் கழகத் தலைவரும் முன்னாள் தமிழக முதல்வரும் ஆவார். 1969ல் முதன் முறையாக தமிழக முதல்வரானார். மே 13, 2006ல் ஐந்தாவது முறையாக முதலமைச்சராகப் பொறுப்பேற்றார். கருணாநிதி, தமிழ்த் திரையுலகில் கதை, உரையாடல் பணிகளில் ஈடுபாடு கொண்டவர். 'தூக்குமேடை' நாடகத்தின் போது எம். ஆர். ராதா 'கலைஞர்' என்ற பட்டம் அளித்தார். இன்றும் அப்பெயராலேயே ஆதரவாளர்களால் அழைக்கப்படுகின்றார். 2011 தமிழக தேர்தலில் திருவாரூர் தொகுதியில் போட்டியிட்டு தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டார்.







मुत्तुवेल करुणानिधि (तमिल: மு. கருணாநிதி) (जन्म 3 जून 1924) एक भारतीय राजनेता और तमिलनाडु के वर्तमान मुख्यमंत्री हैं. वे तमिलनाडु राज्य के एक द्रविड़ राजनीतिक दल द्रविड़ मुन्नेत्र कज़गम (डीएमके) के प्रमुख हैं. वे 1969 में डीएमके के संस्थापक सी. एन. अन्नादुरई की मौत के बाद से इसके नेता हैं और पांच बार (1969–71, 1971–76, 1989–91, 1996–2001 और 2006–वर्तमान) मुख्यमंत्री रह चुके हैं. उन्होंने अपने 60 साल के राजनीतिक करियर में अपनी भागीदारी वाले हर चुनाव में अपनी सीट जीतने का रिकॉर्ड बनाया है. 2004 के लोकसभा चुनाव में उन्होंने तमिलनाडु और पुदुचेरी में डीएमके के नेतृत्व वाली डीपीए (यूपीए और वामपंथी दल) का नेतृत्व किया और लोकसभा की सभी 40 सीटों को जीत लिया. इसके बाद 2009 के लोकसभा चुनाव में उन्होंने डीएमके द्वारा जीती गयी सीटों की संख्या को 16 से बढ़ाकर 18 कर दिया और तमिलनाडु और पुदुचेरी में यूपीए का नेतृत्व कर बहुत छोटे गठबंधन के बावजूद 28 सीटों पर विजय प्राप्त की. वे तमिल सिनेमा जगत के एक नाटककार और पटकथा लेखक भी हैं. उनके समर्थक उन्हें कलाईनार (तमिल: கலைஞர், "कला का विद्वान") कहकर बुलाते हैं.







Muthuvel Karunanidhi (born Karunanidhi, 3 June 1924) is an Indian politician who has served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on five separate occasions. He is the former chief minister. He is the head of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), a Dravidian political party in the state of Tamil Nadu. He has been the leader of the DMK since the death of its founder, C. N. Annadurai, in 1969. He holds the record of winning his seat in every election in which he has participated, in a political career spanning more than 60 years. In the 2004 Lok Sabha Elections, he led the DMK-led DPA (UPA and Left Parties) in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to win all 40 Lok Sabha seats. In the following 2009 Lok Sabha Elections, he was able to increase the number of seats for the DMK from 16 to 18 seats, and led the UPA in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, to win 28 seats, even with a significantly smaller coalition. He is also a playwright and screenwriter in Tamil cinema. He is called by his supporters as Kalaignar ("artist").


Early life

Muthuvel Karunanidhi was born as Dakshinamurthy in Thirukuvalai in Nagapattinam, British India, on 3 June 1924 to Muthuvel and Anjugam.



He belongs to the Isai Vellalar community. He is a non-vegetarian now turned vegetarian. He has claimed that the secret of his energy and success lies in the daily practice of yoga. He married three times; his wives are the late Padmavathy, Dayalu Ammal and Rajathiammal. His sons are M. K. Muthu, M. K. Alagiri, M. K. Stalin, and M. K. Tamilarasu. His daughters are Selvi and Kanimozhi. Kanimozhi is a Rajya Sabha MP. M. K. Muthu, his eldest son was born to Padmavathy, who died early. Azhagiri, Stalin, Selvi and Tamilarasu were born to Dayaluammal, while Kanimozhi is the only daughter from his third wife, Rajathiammal. He has donated his house, which is to be converted into a free hospital for the poor after his death. 


Political career

Karunanidhi entered politics at the age of 14, inspired by a speech by Alagiriswamii of the Justice Party, and participated in Anti-Hindi agitations. The first major protest that aided Karunanidhi in gaining ground in Tamil politics was his involvement in an anti-Hindi protest in Kallakudi. Karunanidhi was first elected to the Tamil Nadu assembly in 1957 from the Kulithalai assembly of Thiruchirapalli district. He became the DMK treasurer in 1961 and deputy leader of opposition in the state assembly in the year 1962 and when the DMK came to power in 1967, he became the minister for public works.He delivered the special address on the inaugural day of 3rd World Tamil Conference held in Paris in the year 1970, and also on the inaugural day of 6th World Tamil Conference held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) in the year 1987. He penned the song "Semmozhiyaana Tamizh Mozhiyaam", the official theme song for the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010, that was set to tune by A. R. Rahman, at his own request.  


On 3 July 2012, briefing the Joint parliamentary committee probing the scam, ED claimed that it has enough evidence to convict DMK chief Karunanidhi's wife and daughter Kanimozhi.


Mr Karunanidhi was reportedly upset in the JPC's findings and revelations and have discreetly urged his trusted DMK channels to ensure support and cooperation from the UPA government to safeguard his daughter's interests in this 2G scam.Mr T R Baalu from DMK visited Congress veteran Mr Ahamed Patel to convey DMK chief's displeasure over the JPC findings.
