Efkan Âlâ (d. 1965, Erzurum), Türk bürokrat. İçiÅŸleri Bakanıdır. 1987'de İstanbul Üniversitesi Siyasal Bilgiler Fakültesi'nden mezun oldu. 1988'de kaymakamlık stajına baÅŸladı. İki yıl Sakarya ValiliÄŸi maiyet memurluÄŸu, bir yıl İngiltere’de hizmet içi eÄŸitimden sonra, ikiÅŸer yıl Dernekpazarı, KabataÅŸ ilçelerinde kaymakamlık, Tunceli’de vali yardımcılığı yaptı. İçiÅŸleri Bakanlığı’nda EÄŸitim Åžube MüdürlüÄŸü, İller İdaresi Daire BaÅŸkanlığı, Turizm Bakanlığı'nda EÄŸitim Genel MüdürlüÄŸü ve MüÅŸavirlik görevlerinde bulundu. 13 Åžubat 2003 tarihinde Batman valiliÄŸine atandı. Batman valiliÄŸinden sonra 14 Eylül 2004 tarihinde Diyarbakır ValiliÄŸi'ne atandı. 10 Eylül 2007 tarihinde BaÅŸbakanlık MüsteÅŸarlığı görevine getirildi. Son olarak 17 Aralık 2013'te gerçekleÅŸtirilen yolsuzluk operasyonunda görevinden istifa eden İçiÅŸleri Bakanı Muammer Güler'in yerine baÅŸbakan tarafından İçiÅŸleri Bakanlığı'na atandı. Evli ve iki çocuk babasıdır.

Efkan Ala (born 1965) is a Turkish politician and the current Minister of the Interior under Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's government, despite not being a member of parliament. Previously, he served as the governor of Diyarbakır and Batman Provinces and as the undersecretary to the prime minister.

 

Career

Civil service

In 1988, he began his civil service career as a district governor trainee. After working two years at the governor's office in Sakarya Province, and a one-year professional study in the United Kingdom, he became a district governor, and served two years in each townships of Dernekpazarı, Trabzon and Kabataş, Ordu. Ala was appointed Deputy Province Governor in Tunceli. After serving at various positions in different ministries, he was made the governor of Batman Province in 2003, where he served one year. On 14 September 2004, he was appointed as the governor of Diyarbakır Province on 14 September 2004, where he stayed until 2007. On 10 September 2007, Ala became the prime minister's undersecretary.

 

Minister of the Interior

On 25 December 2013, then-Minister of the Interior Muammer Güler stepped down along with two of other cabinet members following a corruption investigation, which involved his son. The same day, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan announced his cabinet reshuffle with ten new names. The next day, on 26 December, Efkan Ala assumed office as the Minister of the Interior as a non-member of the parliament, a move that was sharply criticized by some MPs of the prime minister's own Justice and Development Party (AKP) as well as by the leadership of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP).
