Sie stellt mit ihrer Bundesvorsitzenden Angela Merkel die amtierende Bundeskanzlerin der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Auf europäischer Ebene ist die CDU Mitglied der Europäischen Volkspartei (EVP). Die CDU ist die mitgliederstärkste Partei in Deutschland. Die Christlich-Demokratische Union Deutschlands ("Ost-CDU") ging 1990 in der gesamtdeutschen CDU auf.
