The SDKÚ-DS and KDH opposition parties will resume cooperation with the third opposition party, the ethnic Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK), KDH chairman Pavol Hrušovský told journalists after a meeting on November 24.

The parties haven’t worked with the SMK since the vote on the Lisbon Treaty this April, when the SMK supported the treaty rather than side with the opposition, which was holding out for changes to the Press Code.

At today's meeting, the KDH submitted its own ideas for alleviating the possible fallout of the global financial crisis. Hrušovský said that all three opposition parties would devote all efforts to agreeing on a joint protection plan. The SDKÚ-DS came with its own proposal, but only the SMK supported it, though the party had also expected support from the KDH.

The KDH and the SDKÚ-DS also announced they will support an SMK amendment to the Education Act on textbooks used in ethnic Hungarian schools; they will not support the draft state budget law for next year; and that they will consider submitting a no-confidence motion against Construction Minister Marián Janušek on suspicions of cronyism and corruption.
