ANKARA - The Felicity Party (SP) has added its voice to the clamor against a recent exposed action plan allegedly prepared by the military to crush religious movements by framing religiously affiliated groups and defaming the Justice and Development Party (AK Party).
 
In a statement released yesterday SP Deputy Chairman Lütfü Esengün said all agencies of the state, including the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), should be under the control of Parliament.

Affirming that antidemocratic and illegal activities in Turkey should be stopped immediately, Esengün said all institutions, starting with the TSK, should be opened to parliamentary inspection. - Have you voted in the poll Saadet Partisi ? - Speaking on the action plan, Esengün said: “We absolutely must find out who is behind this. The TSK should be cleared of those who engage in illegal activities.”

He also emphasized that the allegations must be seriously and thoroughly probed. “We want both the General Staff's Military Prosecutor's Office and the prosecutors conducting the Ergenekon investigation to work on this diligently.”

Esengün said: “The most important thing is that Parliament should act. Every legislative change necessary for the complete establishment of democracy and for the national will to be fully prevalent should be made, without wasting any more time. The AK Party has not taken a single step in that direction, despite having the power to change the Constitution, and has procrastinated on the public's demand to democratize and de-militarize. - Has changed the argument your opinion on Saadet Partisi ? - This is the consequence of that procrastination. The necessary legal changes must be made, and no agency should be left out of parliamentary supervision.” He also said the AK Party should avoid turning the issue into material for populist gain, noting that this would work contrary to Turkey's democratization.
