Ireland's Labour Party proposed on Thursday reducing Ireland's budget deficit to 4.8 percent of GDP by 2014, and reducing it to below the EU limit of 3 percent no later than 2016.

Labour, favourites to enter government with the main opposition Fine Gael party after a Feb. 25 poll, said 4 billion of its proposed 7 billion euro budgetary savings between 2012 and 2014 would come from expenditure savings.
