The Lebanese National Liberal Party called on the country’s president to head an “indirect” dialogue between opposing political factions amid political tensions wracking the country.

“We call on President [Michel Suleiman] to head an indirect dialogue between the March 8 and the March 14 forces in order to reach solutions inspired by the constitution and the rule of law,” the party said in a statement following its weekly meeting on Friday.

The party also brushed away fears of political vacuum in case of the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s cabinet, which is dominated by the March 8 forces.

The March 14 opposition coalition last week announced it was cutting all ties with the Miqati government following the assassination of Lebanon’s Internal Security Forces intelligence chief Wissam al-Hassan on October 19 in Beirut’s Ashrafieh.
