Mosiuota Lekota 'denies' party rifts

COPE president Mosiuoa Lekota admitted on Tuesday that the absence of a democratically elected party leadership could be the reason behind the sudden wave of dissenting views expressed by some members within the party. Lekota was responding to a question from the Daily News about reported divisions within party structures in KwaZulu-Natal. The newspaper was reliably informed that a group of disgruntled COPE members met in Durban earlier this week and had since laid formal complaints with the provincial leadership. Some of the complaints arose from beliefs that minorities had been sidelined within the party and that debate had been stifled.
