Texas U.S. Senator John Cornyn will continue to head the GOP’s senatorial campaign committee.

“I appreciate the strong support from all of my Republican colleagues, and especially our 13 new Republican senators, as we continue our campaign to win back a Senate Republican majority in 2012,” said Mr. Cornyn.

Mr. Cornyn touted past successes in this statement announcing the re-election. He specifically pointed to recent gains made by the GOP in the mid-term elections. He noted that “few” would have expected the GOP to capture the number of seats they did.

The Texas Republican said Party leaders need to build on this year’s successes as they prepare to capture the U.S. Senate in 2012.

He addressed criticism over a number of candidates the Party put forth this year, quoting William F. Buckley: “I am for the most conservative candidate that c. n get elected.”
