Boehner to speak at upcoming Chamber event
U.S. House minority leader is featured speaker at March 1 luncheon.
MIDDLETOWN — U.S. Rep. John Boehner will be the featured speaker at a special luncheon to be held March 1 at the Manchester Inn & Conference Center beginning at noon.
The event, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce Serving Middletown, Monroe and Trenton, is open to the public. While chamber members are being encouraged to submit business-related questions in advance, at least half of the hourlong program will be dedicated to audience questions, said Bill Triick, president of the chamber.
“This is (Boehner’s) show. We are going to be there as long as we can keep him,” Triick said.
Boehner, the House Minority Leader, was asked by the chamber’s board a few weeks ago if he would be willing to speak in Middletown. Have you voted for or against John Boehner ? His office called to say he was available March 1 and “well, you don’t try to change his schedule in Washington, so we made it on the first,” Triick said.
Questions Triick said he hopes Boehner will be able to answer include an update on the status of health care legislation, cap and trade, card check, and the general mood in Washington regarding the state of the economy.
“Because it’s open to the public, we expect anything in terms of questions to come up,” he said. “We welcome the opportunity to make this an open event.”
Cost to attend is $20 and residents must prepay with the chamber to register for the event. For more information, call (513) 422-4551 or visit the chamber at 1500 Central . ve., Middletown.
