Kolkata - Citing health reasons once again, former West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has skipped the three-day CPI(M) central committee meeting beginning in Delhi tomorrow. CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose said Bhattacharjee had written to party general secretary Prakash Karat expressing inability to attend the meeting on health grounds. Bhattacharjee was unable to go on long journeys either by air or rail because of a respiratory problem, he said. Party insiders said the meeting was expected to discuss preparations for the party's ideological document in keeping with the present political situation. Karat wanted Bhattacharjee to be present at the meeting for his 'valued opinion' but he cited health reasons for keeping away, they said. The two had met at the last state committee meeting here on October 30 and 31 where Bhattacharjee was believed to have clarified his health problems to Karat. Party sources said Bhattacharjee was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a respiratory problem. Bhattacharjee has been avoiding the CPI(M) politburo and central committee meetings since the Left Front's humiliating defeat in the last Assembly elections, except for one held here in August. All other central committee members, including Biman Bose, Nirupam Sen and Benoy K. nar, left for Delhi.
